A Guide to the Chandler Art Walk

A Guide to the Chandler Art Walk

Here in Chandler, we’re lucky enough to have a fantastic Art Walk. Held every third Friday from 6pm-9:30pm, and hosted in the AJ Chandler Park (west), you can see the works of over 35 local artists. With the upcoming Art Walk on May 19th doubling as the Summer Kick-Off Art Walk – the last outdoor art walk for the 2016-2017 season, we thought it would be a good time to look at the event and see why it’s so popular.

If you’ve ever thought about checking out all the amazing stores and delicious restaurants that line the streets of Downtown Chandler, this is a great way to dive in. Chandler’s intimate downtown is the perfect location to sample local artistic styles. The park-like design of Chandler’s downtown area lets you relax and enjoy the arts with a stroll along the trellis-lined walkways. Visit with artists and gallery owners and combine your art walk with a night of dining in Chandler’s award winning restaurants to experience all that Downtown Chandler has to offer. The Art Walk is moved indoors each summer, and the next one will be August 18th at TechShop Chandler. So, come on out and enjoy the beautiful and vibrant downtown atmosphere.

The Art Walk – which also features music – allows you to browse many different types of art, including (deep breath): painting, photography, glass art, pottery, woodworking, jewelry, metal work, mixed media, accessories and sculptures. All the artists they choose have first gone through a jury process to be accepted and only fine art and/or fine craft submissions will be considered.

The very first Chandler Art Walk took place on February 7, 2007. The 3rd Fridays Art Walk was originally a Chandler Art Guild event. In the fall of 2007, the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership took responsibility for the Art Walk, and renamed it the Downtown Chandler Art Walk.

Hundreds of people attend each Art Walk, and the DCCP makes a special effort to include the businesses located in downtown Chandler. A permanent location for artist studio spaces and offering art classes is right on Boston Street and many of the merchants in Historic Downtown Chandler stay open for the Downtown Chandler Art Walk. The two main display streets have shade cover and light. You’ll be happy about that shade during the hotter months! The May 19th Summer Kick Off Art Walk will be host to live indie-folk music from Loser’s Way Home, and will feature – amongst many other artists – an exhibit of works by junior artists.

See you there!
